Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost
The University of North Dakota (www.und.edu), the largest and fastest-growing liberal arts-based, doctoral/research university in a five-state region, invites applications or nominations for the position of Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs.
The University seeks a dynamic and visionary leader to serve as the chief academic officer. The Provost will have a demonstrated record as a distinguished scholar and teacher, with a history of administrative success. The Provost, who will have primary responsibility for the overall administration and quality of academic programs, will be a creative facilitator of the University's academic mission and shall promote academic excellence campus-wide. The successful candidate will establish vital links among faculty, administrators, staff, and students to advance the University's goals for: academic assessment and General Education programming; professional development and recruitment of faculty; strategic planning; enhancement of the academic and cultural environment of UND and the community; and faculty-driven scholarly and creative endeavors.
The University of North Dakota is at an exciting crossroads in its 121-year history. Major growth and positive change are the hallmarks of this new era: enrollment has increased to over 13,000 students, including 1,900 graduate students; six new Ph.D. and master's degree programs have been added over the past three years; eight distance education programs have been created, resulting in UND having 25 degree programs offered at a distance; UND continues as a leader in American Indian programs; the campus technology infrastructure - already strong - continues to improve; faculty salaries are rising; a new plan for development/fundraising is being created by all units at UND; and a flexible new strategic plan is well along in its development.
Doctoral degrees are offered in 21 fields, master's degrees in 54, and the specialist diploma in one. Approximately 60 doctoral degrees are granted each year. The University's colleges and schools are: Arts and Sciences, Business and Public Administration, Aerospace Sciences, Engineering and Mines, Education and Human Development, Law, Medicine and Health Sciences, Nursing, and the Graduate School. The Provost oversees these, with the exception of Medicine, plus Summer Sessions, Information Technology Systems and Services, the Chester Fritz Library, the Center for Instructional and Learning Technologies, the Honors Program, Instructional Development, the University Registrar, International Programs, Air Force ROTC, and Military Science (Army ROTC).
Specific qualifications: An earned doctorate from an accredited institution; a distinguished record of academic accomplishment consistent with appointment to the rank of Professor; a record of successful administrative experience in higher education with demonstrated achievement in the management of curriculum, academic personnel, budget administration, and comprehensive academic planning; a demonstrated ability to work effectively within a shared governance structure and a consultative decision-making process; a history of involvement in developing a diverse campus community; and certified ability to provide innovative leadership in a higher education setting.
